Monthly Mood
"Details, when they are successful, are not mere decoration. They do not distract or entertain. They lead to an understanding of the whole of which they are an inherent part"
- Peter Zumthor
This month we have had a renewed appreciation for all things vintage - maybe it’s all the Round Top Antiques content we’ve been consuming non-stop, or maybe its the vintage lighting we’ve been sourcing for an exciting project in the works - either way, it’s been our obsession this month.
One thing (out of the many) we love about vintage pieces and design is the details that are incorporated and the ornamentation for ornamentation’s sake. While we always design with the mentality of, “form follows function,” - there is something to be said about decorative details that don’t serve a purpose other than to look beautiful and improve the aesthetics of the design. We could go on a rant about this (and maybe we will in a future blog) but sadly the increased emphasis on efficiency and ease of repetition in the construction world (think the mass produced housing developments) has completely stripped homes of the uniqueness and the ornamental details that homes used to have and were a huge part of what made older homes so cool. Anyways! Our mood board this month pays homage to all the details and elements in vintage pieces we love and are excited to implement into our upcoming designs, because decorative elements add the character and intention that our spaces need and long for.
